Disney Infinity and Skylanders each claim they outsold the other in 2014

Both Disney and Activision are claiming victory in the sales of the toys to life genre for 2014.

Activision claims that based on NDP, Gfk and internal data that Skylanders outsold its nearest competitor by 17% to remain the best selling property for the thirs consecutive year. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg states, “As a global franchise in 2014, Skylanders is 30% bigger than its nearest competitor. And Skylanders Trap Team outsold its nearest competitor globally by 17%.”

Wait just a second though, because Gamespot is reporting that Disney — also citing NDP data — claims that Disney Infinity outsold its nearest competitor in terms of starter packs sold and total sales revenue. Disney also claims that Infinity has increased its sales by 16% on the previous year increasing market share from 43% to 47%.

The competition is only going to continue to heat up too as Disney is likely to unveil its long rumoured Disney Infinity Star Wars sometime this year.
