Console versions of The Witcher 3 can’t import saves, can simulate world states

When players boot up The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC they can be comfortable in the knowledge that their save files from The Witcher 2 will carry over and have an impact. PS4 and Xbox One players have no such luck however and instead, will be able to opt-in to an in-game conversation which will generate a world state.

Speaking with Joystiq Level Designer Miles Tost said, “The way how it works is that the game on the consoles will ask you whether you want to simulate a specific state of the world, coming from previous games. If you choose ‘yes,’ then you will get a special conversation at one part of the game – I don’t want to spoil where it happens. It’s basically a conversation with a character and the conversation is about the adventures of Geralt of Rivia. And you can basically deny or confirm whatever [the character] has heard of whatever tales of [Geralt.] It’s actually kind of a cute mechanic. If you don’t want to simulate the state then this conversation doesn’t take place.”

This world state simulation may be what was teased by CD Projekt Red’s Community Manager Marcin Momot last week.

If that’s the case, expect the in-game conversation to also be an option in the PC version.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One 19 May. Check out our recent preview here.
