Sony celebrates 20 years of PlayStation with a special PSOne edition PS4

Sony has announced a very special edition of the PlayStation 4 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of the first PlayStation.

The PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Edition will only have 12,300 units manufactured worldwide, reflecting the original release date of 3 December 1994 in Japan. The special edition console comes in “Original Gray” and in a special commemorative box.

Alongside the new/old PlayStation 4, Sony has also released a free theme for PS Vita and PS4 which recreates the sites and sounds of the PSOne. It was rolled out with yesterday’s firmware update. Check it out below.

Sony hasn’t announced an Australian price for the special edition or if it will even be available for purchase in this region. It will retail for 49,980 Yen in Japan, $499 USD in North America and €499 in Europe. That roughly equals $600 AUD. Sony has advised fans to tune into PlayStation AU on Facebook and Twitter to find out how you can win one.
