Miyamoto: We might make NFC cards to replace sold out amiibos

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto said that discontinued amiibos may find new life in NFC cards.

Said arrangement would be grossly different than the current, figure-based amiibos, but NFC cards — think trading cards, almost — would give those who missed out on a purchase a chance to raise, say, a Little Mac to level 50 in Super Smash Bros.

Some of Nintendo’s amiibos are currently quite difficult to track down, with a Stevivor report showing Little Mac, part of amiibo’s second wave, was already sold out on the day of its release. Additional reports suggest Nintendo will not be reproducing certain amiibos after they’ve sold out.

What do you think of Miyamoto’s possible fix? Would you rather just have Nintendo continue to make the figurines? Are you flabbergasted, as we are, as to why Nintendo wouldn’t continue to make products that are quickly selling out?
