Development of The Last Guardian continues “under completely new conditions”

The Last Guardian has been on life support for a while, what was once meant to be a jewel in the crown of the PS3 is increasingly looking like it will make its debut on the PS4. In an interview translated by Kotaku, series creator Fumito Ueda claimed that development of The Last Guardian was continuing “under completely new conditions”, which is being taken as an indicator that the follow-up to Shadow of the Colossus will be a PS4 title. It makes all the sense in the world, the last generation has been mostly abandoned for new development and while the early days of the PS3 still saw some classic PS2 games released such as God of War 2 and Final Fantasy XII, that trend hasn’t continued to this generation and it seems unlikely that such a big exclusive would be PS3 only now that we enter the second year of the PS4.

Less promising for the development of The Last Guardian was that Ueda is also “working on some other things that I’ll hopefully be able to show in time if progress is smooth”. His focus is certainly divided, but after endless delays and a split from Sony in 2011 Ueda may be getting moved along from his baby.
