Ciri is the second playable character in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

CD Projekt Red has revealed today that Ciri is the second playable character in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Players will assume control of Ciri at certain moments during the game “to offer a unique and different perspective on the story plot, and not to become an alternative story line to Geralt.”

Players won’t be able to switch between the two characters at will, but the developer stresses that “[a]dding Ciri as a playable character unlocks quite a few narrative possibilities for the player.” Ciri is described as “the ashen-haired girl from an ancient prophecy” and the descendant of a lost elven bloodline. She’s a “living and highly volatile weapon capable of both destroying and healing the fragile world” of The Witcher 3.

Ciri is connected to Geralt and being pursued by the Wild Hunt and the Empire of Nilfgaard. While The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is Geralt’s story, Ciri is an integral part and finding her forms part of his mission. Ciri is more than capable in battle thanks to her swordsmanship, agility and ability to blink. However, she also holds a dormant power waiting to be unlocked.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was recently delayed and will launch for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on 19 May 2015.
