Snappy Xbox One October update live

The latest Xbox One update has rolled out, with some oft requested improvements to achievements, snap functionality and friends lists. The full details can be found on the Major Nelson blog, with an outline below.

Snap gets a quick menu accessed with a double tap of the Xbox button, allowing you to access friends and messaging functionality in game. It also makes unsnapping easier (something I’ve found particularly frustrating when a help app snaps to the screen accidentally).

The achievements app improves integration of your friends list, including recent Gamerscore leaderboards.

Media player, DLNA and MKV support allows streaming of the most popular media formats to the Xbox One from your PC. To some this will be the most exciting announcement of the lot.

Microsoft have been dedicated to improving the Xbox One experience, and this might be their best update yet for upgrades, particularly with media streaming and better access to friends lists. If they keep this up, they might reach feature parity with the Xbox 360 by Christmas.
