Preview: Scalebound

Very little had been revealed concerning Scalebound since its announcement at E3 2014. The upcoming Xbox One exclusive title showcased a rather impressive CGI teaser at the games convention, though how the game would play or even what sort of game it was remained a mystery.

Months later at Tokyo Game Show, Platinum Games game director Hideki Kamiya attempted to answer a lot of the questions many had had since E3. He was quick to explain how different Scalebound would be from his previous games, Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, which he described as much more challenging and action-driven. Scalebound aims to integrate aspects of the battle systems from these past games, but focuses more on large epic-scale battles with large monsters in a fantasy setting.

While not much was revealed concerning the story in Scalebound, these giant battles would apparently play a large role. The player’s relationship with their dragon will also be a key theme of the game.

When asked if Scalebound would be any easier than his previous games, Hideki replied that this time around the basic battle gameplay would be easier however those wanting more of a challenge would enjoy the numerous strategy options available to clear certain areas.

No information was given one way or the other concerning any multiplayer modes in the game though more information on all aspects of Scalebound was promised as development progresses.

Scalebound will be released on Xbox One with a release date yet to be announced.
