Driveclub PS4 wheel support announced

With Driveclub only days away PS4 owners serious about racing games will be looking to gear up for the challenge. Sony have provided a list of wheels that Driveclub will support on the Playstation Blog, which reads as ‘all of them’ or ‘two Thrustmaster wheels’ depending on if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person.

Evolution Studios have worked closely with Thrustmaster to ensure strong support for their suite of PS4 steering wheels, the basic model T80 ($199 AUD RRP) and the premier T300RS ($699 AUD RRP). They have also promised Driveclub support for future PS4 wheel releases.

Not mentioned is any non specialist PS4 hardware such as the Logitech range of wheels. Indeed the blog post reads more as an advertisement for the official PS4 Thrustmaster wheels than an announcement they are supported. Logitech have stated they are working with Sony on a solution to bring support for their popular range of wheels to the PS4, but it doesn’t look like that will happen for the Driveclub launch. In August Logitech claimed on Twitter that the PS4 requires a security chip for peripherals that their range of wheels does not include, but recent statements just claim it is “a complicated issue we’re currently working on.”

Considering the cost of wheels, it is understandable wheel owners are unhappy their investments are not carrying over to the current generation. On the bright side the Thrustmaster wheels look like good hardware for those who can’t wait for broad wheel support.
