Two EA teams working on Apple Watch experiences

When Apple unveiled the iPhone 6 yesterday it revealed that EA was one of many publishers/developers working on apps, games and experiences for the device. It’s now come to light that the publisher also sees potential in experiences tied to the Apple Watch.

Speaking with CNET EA Mobile Head Frank Gibeau said “we have two teams prototyping wearable experiences that are not only standalone, but also some ideas where you can actually use the fitness component in the watch that can unlock capabilities in the game that might be on your iPhone.” He added that certain functions of games on the phone could be instead handled on the Watch like “crafting or some other auction trading on your watch that goes back into your tablet game that you might check out later when you get home.”

Gibeau envisions “wearables emerg[ing] as a gaming platform” which over time will increase in”performance, capability and unique functions.” He admitted that while ” it’s very early days” EA sees the emergence of another potential platform for gaming as compelling.
