Pinball FX2 coming to Xbox One without Xbox 360 cross-buy support

Pinball FX2 will be available on Xbox One from 31 July. With some caveats.

Zen Studios were very upfront about the fact that the Xbox versions of the game don’t support cross-buy, meaning those with tables on Xbox 360 will have to buy the tables again to play on Xbox One. Ironically, Pinball FX2 will launch with most currently-available tables.

The game does support cross-buy on PlayStation and iOS platforms.

“We began working on Pinball FX2 for Xbox One near the end of 2013 and cross-platform entitlement was the biggest discussion point with Microsoft,” Mel Kirk, Zen’s Vice President of Publishing, said to Polygon. “At that time, there were technical limitations and policy restrictions that prevented us from allowing cross-platform entitlements.”

Kirk added that Zen will continue looking into cross-buy support, citing recent developments with Harmonix’s Dance Central Spotlight on Xbox One and previously purchased Xbox 360 songs.

If you’re not looking forward to re-buying tables you already own, you can always stick with your Xbox 360 version for now.
