Nintendo’s latest Wii U firmware patch — version 5.1.0 — now allows users to perform a system transfer between two Wii U consoles.
Like the 3DS system transfer operation, users are able to send system data between two Wii Us. However, also like the 3DS system transfer, the original (or sender) Wii U console will be formatted completely after the transfer is complete. Essentially the system transfer simply allows you to turn a new Wii U into your old one. The latest firmware update allows users to browse the eShop with Wii Remotes or the Wii U Pro Controller.
While the ability to do a system transfer is handy for those upgrading from a standard 8GB Wii U to the 32GB version, it’s somewhat pointless for anyone else. We’re still holding out hope that we’ll be able to sign in with out NNID on any Wii U in the near future.
