Less than half of GameStop’s customers are aware of trade-ins

According to an interview with VentureBeat by GameStop President Tony Bartel, only 40 percent of customers are aware of the ability to trade pre-owned games.

It may come as a surprise to many gamers who simply know they’re able to trade-in old products especially as the last few years has seen a PR war by publishers against the practice. Bartel says that while only 40 percent are aware of trading pre-owned games, even less know they’re able to trade old smartphones and tablets.

According to VentureBeat GameStop have $1.2 billion spent in trade credit in stores each year. Bartel suggests that 70 percent of that total is spent on new purchases.
