Hacker tweaks Mario Kart 8 in an effort to protect other gamers

Well, that didn’t take long: a YouTube user has undertaken what he calls “a proof of concept” to illustrate that Mario Kart 8 isn’t free from advantage-gaining hacks.

YouTube user MrBean35000vr posted a video showing alterations to the game’s soundtrack, track names and Wii U system menu font. All this is apparently possible due to a recently-discovered Wii U browser exploit.

MrBean35000vr says he has no plans to release his knowledge to the public, and has posted the above video to raise awareness of the exploit. “None of this is in any state to be released at present, and it’s unlikely that we ever will in the interest of preventing cheaters,” he reiterated.

The user says if unchecked, this exploit could potentially lead to hacks in Mario Kart 8‘s online play.

We’ll keep you updated if Nintendo responds to these claims.
