Games with in-app purchases no longer labeled as free on Google Play

Games and apps on Google Play that are free to download initially but which include in-app purchases will no longer be marketed as free on the store reports Engagdet.

The changes follow a request from the European Commission on the way “free”, “freemium” and “free-to-play” apps are marketed. The European Commission’s requests include not misleading consumers on the potential costs of an app and not “directly exhorting” users (especially children) to buy in-app items.

Google announced that in addition to not labeling apps as free it would also introduce guidelines for developers so that apps do not encourage children to make in-app purchases.

Do you think the measures go far enough?
