Take-Two: Red Dead is a permanent franchise

Speaking at the Cowen and Company’s Technology, Media and Telecom Conference last week, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick noted that alongside Grand Theft Auto, the company sees Red Dead as a permanent franchise “as long as we keep delivering this incredible quality.”

Rockstar has developed and published two games in the series; Red Dead Revolver for PS2 and Xbox in 2004 and Red Dead Redemption for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. Zelnick’s statement hints at another Red Dead game on the horizon. With Rockstar’s first current-gen game to be released in early 2015, a new Red Dead is a possibility.

Zelnick noted, “not everything is going to be a permanent franchise. We can do very well even if it’s not. I would like to see us grow with a couple more great franchises in the next couple years and we’re launching Evolve, we have very high hopes for that.”

With Irrational Games downsizing to just 15 staff and leaving the BioShock IP with Take-Two, Zelnick noted that 2K Marin — developer of BioShock 2 — would be taking over duties on the series. The most recent release from 2K Marin was The Bureau:  XCOM Declassified.
