Battlefield: Hardline is the police themed spin-off in development at Visceral [UPDATE]

A Battlelog update may have given away Battlefield: Hardline as the next in the series. From the details mined out of the update the game’s title and police theme (long since rumoured) appear to be accurate.

In development at Visceral Games — Dead Space — and codenamed Havana or Omaha, artwork from the game were posted on EA servers along with a range of icons for various platforms. Four classes of character include Professional, Enforcer, Mechanic and Operator along with game modes Blood Money, Bomb Squad and Carrier Assault.

An official site for Battlefield: Hardline has gone live announcing that more will be revealed at EA’s media briefing at E3 on 9 June. The website features the image above which more than suggests a police theme.

We’ll know more come E3.

Update: Visceral Games General Manager and Battlefield: Hardline Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis has posted on the Battlefield Blog and confirmed that Battlefield: Hardline as the title of the new game as well as the police vs criminals theme.

Papoutsis writes, “This is a brand new series in the Battlefield franchise, set against the backdrop of a genre we all love – the war on crime and the battle between cops and criminals,” suggesting that Hardline is to be the jumping off point for a new series like with Modern Warfare and Black Ops each spinning off into their own series’.

Papoutsis doesn’t confirm anything aside from the name and the police theme, but adds, “I wish I could tell you more now – more about the ways we are adding new twists and turns to the foundation of Battlefield multiplayer, more about how we’re bringing our strengths at Visceral to single player. But the wait won’t be too long – we’re looking forward to sharing more with you on June 9.”
