Earlier this morning, EA Sports confirmed that their NHL franchise will make the jump to PS4 and Xbox One with NHL 15.
Like FIFA 14 and Madden NFL 25 last year, the game will basically be rebuilt for current-gen systems. The PS4 and Xbox One will sport 12 player collision physics, rebuilt puck physics and player models with three separate layers: a player's body, equipment and jersey.
Technology used in EA Sports UFC will be used to help make in-game players look like their real-life counterparts, delivering realistic emotions and animations as well.
The game will also include improved arenas and 9,000 individual spectator models.
NHL's tired old commentary will be given a facelift due a partnership with NBC to replicate their own broadcast package. Commentary for the game will be handled by Mike "Doc" Emrick and Eddie Olczyk. Ray Ferraro will be between benches to provide ice-level insights.
Now that the NHL playoffs are in full swing, EA decided it's the perfect time to offer the first details for its next hockey game, NHL 15. As the first game in the series to grace Xbox One and PS4 this fall, much of its features focus on its visuals and physics. For starters, next-gen versions of the game will feature "12 player NHL collision physics" as well as rebuilt puck physics, the former governing all actions by every player on the ice (like when they slam into each other) with "real-world physics."
As always, the game's skill stick will be tweaked to help deliver what EA Sports called an "arsenal of sweet new dekes".
The improvements listed above are by and large for the current-gen versions of NHL 15, a last-gen offering will also be offered on Xbox 360 and PS3.
As in previous years, EA Sports will let fans vote to see who graces the cover. The cover vote begins today, between eight players: Erik Karlsson, Logan Couture, T.J Oshie, P.K Subban, Drew Doughty, Phil Kessel, Matt Duchene and Patrice Bergeron. Those who wish to vote can learn more about the process here.
NHL 15 will be available in Q3 2014 on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4.
