Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will soon include microtransactions

A few weeks back, PopCap’s Brian Lindley confirmed that Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare wouldn’t feature microtransactions at launch and it didn’t. Now, EA has announced that “starting next week” players will be able to spend real world money on in-game currency to avoid having to grind.

The only item mentioned as being purchasable in the post is in-game coins, which likely means that players won’t simply be able to buy specific content and unlocks. It also appears that those who wish to spend real world money won’t get any extra benefits above and beyond those who refrain.

At the time of announcing that PvZ:GW would launch without microtransactions, Lindley mentioned that PopCap would monitor in-game metrics to determine the future of the title. Looks like those metrics pointed towards players wanting a shortcut.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is available now for Xbox 360 and Xbox One and will be available for PC later this year.
