Destiny players can upgrade from last to current-gen and keep their saves

Players who begin their Destiny careers on a last-gen console — PS3 and Xbox 360 — who then make the leap to current-gen will be able to transfer their save files and keep their character and progress intact.

Bungie Investment Lead Tyson Green, speaking at a Destiny press event, said that last-gen players could continue to use their character when upgrading to PS4 or Xbox One. “We’re interested in making sure that last gen character can move to next gen,” said Green “[P]eople are going to buy Destiny on PS3 or Xbox 360 and then get a PS4 for Christmas,” he added, mentioning that people are not going to want to lose the hours they put into the game, nor will they want to start again.

Whether players who start on an Xbox 360 and then migrate to a PS4 or start on PS3 and move to an Xbox One will be able to transfer their saves is unclear at this point. Green points out that traditionally the save files have been restricted by the console manufacturer and for Destiny saves it will be a “wait and see” approach.

Destiny will be available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One later this year.
