PS4 day one update ready to download now; Aussies can prepare it for launch via USB

Sony yesterday confirmed that its PS4 1.5 launch update was available to download. While it’s more exciting for Americans, organised Aussies can take advantage of the download by putting it on a USB stick in preparation for 29 November.

To prep and eventually install:

  1. Head over to this PlayStation page and download the firmware.
  2. Prepare a folder called “PS4” on the root of your USB stick, and make a folder called “UPDATE” inside of that.
  3. Download the update inside the “UPDATE” folder.
  4. When you get your PS4, insert the USB drive into it and fire it up from its completely off state, holding the power button down for at least 7 seconds.
  5. The PS4 will start in Safe Mode; select [Update System Software] and follow the prompts.

The 300MB file brings a multitude of updates to the PS4, including 3D Blu-ray playback.

North Americans get the PS4 from 15 November, while Australia and New Zealand waits until 29 November.
