Ubisoft on Wii U: "We believe in Nintendo"

Ubisoft have once again come out in support of Nintendo and their ailing Wii U, telling Polygon that "We believe in Nintendo."  EMEA managing director Alain Corre spoke about Ubisoft's dedication to being early adopters of new hardware as part of their philosophy of exploring new ways to game.

Despite the Wii U's first year struggles Corre said that Ubisoft's position on the console and the upcoming PS4 and Xbox One were unchanged. "We're trying at Ubisoft, as a company, to be early on any new technology coming," he said, "we feel there are some interesting things we can create."

Speaking specifically of the Wii U and Nintendo Corre said, "Nintendo is a company that has proven in the last 30 years that they are able to fascinate tens of millions of gamers," and added, "Nintendo is a great game creator; they are magic to a lot of gamers. And we've had a lot of great experiences with Nintendo in the past, such as the Wii and the Just Dance franchise."

Regarding ZombiU, Corre admitted it was a learning experience for Ubisoft that helped to shape their second-screen development. "With ZombiU last year, it was one of the first times we could explore asynchronous gameplay thanks to the second screen. When we look at that today, it's also thanks to that we've been able to create gameplay for games like Watch Dogs."

Corre also said that he believes there is still hope for the Wii U, but that Nintendo need to promote the console more and push harder to get gamers to buy one. "We feel that this machine can find its place, we just need more push from them to help find the market."
