Square Enix CEO confirms next-gen sequel for Tomb Raider

Phil Rogers CEO of Square Enix in the Americas and Europe has confirmed that work is “well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel”.

The existence of a sequel was revealed recently when an interquel comic book was discussed in an interview with Gail Simone by Kotaku. The comic is to be published by Dark Horse and written by Simone, who’s enjoyed successful runs on Wonder Woman, Deadpool and Batgirl. Simone said of the story “In continuity, it will be Tomb Raider canon, and lead DIRECTLY into the sequel.”

Joystiq are reporting that former Crystal Dynamics studio head and now head of product development and studios at Square Enix, Darrell Gallagher said;

It’s still early days, so I’m afraid I can’t provide any further details for now save my assurance that we’re not resting on our laurels and acclaim from Tomb Raider’s recent successes, but working hard to raise the bar even higher and re-affirm the faith you’ve shown.

We were big fans of Tomb Raider when it was released earlier this year, so confirmation of a next-gen sequel is entirely welcome.
