Square Enix Europe and Eidos Montreal have revealed that a brand new game in the Thief series - titled simply Thief - will be coming to PC, PS4 and next-generation consoles in 2014. Described as a "reinvention of a franchise that helped define and entire genre of games" Thief will once again see players step into the silent shoes of Garrett as he explores The City.

The game was first revealed by GameInformer as Thief occupies the April cover (as seen above and in full below).

Details are scarce regarding the new entry into the series, however we know that The City is gripped by fear and hatred. It's a place where the rich get richer and thrive and the poor are repressed and suffer at the hands of those more fortunate than themselves. The City is plagued by famine and sickness and the masses wait for something to change.  Garrett is the change the people are waiting for. Players will control Garrett through the game's levels which promise "intelligent design" and "freedom to they approach and overcome each challenge".

Stephane D'Astous, General Manager at Eidos-Montreal said of the game, "We’re handling a precious gemstone with Thief. Fans remember the original games very fondly and we want to preserve that essence - which we have excellent experience of doing at Eidos-Montréal - whilst also introducing Thief to a brand new, next-generation, audience".

GameInfomer have also posted a trailer for the upcoming coverage of the game in April which provides an inside look at the development of the game.

Thief will be available for PC, PS4 and other next-generation consoles in 2014.
