And so it’s come to this. We already knew that Sony were ceasing production of the PlayStation 2 in their native Japan, but now Sony have told The Guardian that production on the best selling console of all time would be ceasing worldwide. After 12 years, over 150 million units sold, over 10,000 games available – 1.5 billion games sold – and a lot of happy gamers the PlayStation 2 will finally be laid to rest. Of course that doesn’t stop the lucky few with backwards compatible PS3’s and digital downloaders from continuing to enjoy the system or those who just aren’t ready to pack the old console away just yet.
