Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed was released last week – look for our review very soon – but even before it was released fans were imagining and suggesting other characters that could become available via DLC. Steve Lycett of Sumo Digital jumped into the discussion on the Sega Forums and issued a challenge to the fans.
He said; “Without any policing from the SUMO or SEGA crew, if you can all agree on three characters by the 1st of December and prove there is sufficient interest of at least 1000 unique people *per* character, I will present the result to SEGA.”
The community swiftly organised itself and in an online vote managed to have three characters each with over 1000 votes, with nearly 15,000 votes being cast in all.
Hatsune Miku, Segata Sanshiro (mascot for the Sega Saturn) and Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue have each amassed over 2000 votes. Vectorman is in fourth place with 939 votes and Bayonetta is fifth with 890. As Lycett said in his forum post he “can’t promise anything will happen as a result” but the fact the community was able to so quickly respond to his challenge may provide some impetus for Sega to act.
We already know that the game has been designed for DLC (the Special Edition includes and unlock code for Metal Sonic and two Outrun tracks) but Sega have made no announcements at this stage.
Who would you like to see as a DLC racer?
