The newest entrant into the social networking/gamer ranking website arena, “GamrCred” has undergone a name change. In early September GamrCred received a “cease and desist” order from lawyers representing a company who felt that the website’s name was too close to the term “streetcred”. After consulting lawyers, who advised that GamrCred had quite a good case, it was decided that to avoid a long and costly legal process the name of the website would be changed. To involve the community, a competition was launched which allowed voting on a variety of names, with the one receiving the most votes becoming the new official name for the site.
The eventual winner was “GamrRank” which captured a huge 65% of the vote. The new web address GamrRank.com is now live so update your bookmarks. The site is currently in invite-only beta, but why not head over and check it out.
GamrRank was created by former BioWare employees now at Empire Avenue and aims to combine gaming and social networking in one place.
