EA’s First Play Tour gives you a taste of what’s to come

Last week, Hammond Buckland and yours truly were fortunate enough to be invited to a preview night of the EA First Play Tour at Highpoint Shopping Centre in Melbourne. For the uninformed, EA are holding a tour of  the east coast of Australia, and giving fans a chance to play upcoming games well before their release date. Events like these are usually opened only to gaming media and the like so the chance for fans to come along is great to see.

Three major upcoming releases were available to play as well as a couple of iOS titles. We were treated to Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Fifa 13, Plants vs Zombies and Mass Effect Infiltrator.

Jess Hodgson (better known as Jiggsy), the Community Manager at EA, was on hand to guide us through the demos and get involved with the fans.  Jiggsy was very pleased with his best time in the only race available in Need for Speed: Most Wanted and promised a t-shirt to anyone able to best his time. Unfortunately for Jiggsy, his time was swiftly crushed and so a new time, set by Brad from NewGame+, was the goal to beat.

Not one to shy away from a competition, I — along with some lucky Steviants who won passes — set out to beat the time. Eventually I was victorious and held the best time for much of the night.

Confident my time would stand, I mingled with the crowd, whilst unbeknownst to me a deviant Steviant spent the rest of the night attempting to beat the best time. Which he did, much to my dismay. But if I couldn’t hold the record, at least it still belonged to Stevivor.com.

In the end, the best time was 54.6 seconds and my best time was 55.4 seconds. So close, yet so far.

If you are interested in heading to the EA First Play Tour and getting some hands on time with these games the remaining dates and locations are;

  • Westfield Eastgardens, Eastgardens NSW: September 20 – 23
  • Westfield Parramatta, Parramatta NSW: September 25 – 30
  • Westfield Carindale, Carindale QLD: October 11 – 14

So, Sydney and Brisbane based Steviants, head on down say hi to Jiggsy and try to beat our best times.
