Your Wii U and 3DS will benefit from a unified eShop account

According to Nintendo World Report, Nintendo is finally hearing your gripes about the friend code systems used by Wii and your various DS’ and is working on a unified account system that will work across the 3DS and the Wii U. To begin with, this feature will only work in the Nintendo eShop, but let’s hope it goes far beyond that.

“A unified account system will be implemented later this year with the launch of the Wii U. Eventually this same account system will be made compatible with Nintendo 3DS systems,” said David Marshall, a Nintendo representative.

Ideally, we’d like to see this system work in the same way that Sony’s cooked up with their cross-platform PlayStation 3 and Vita systems. The big question is, will Nintendo’s effort involve those bulky friend codes in some way? Time will tell.
