Mobile developers Firemint and IronMonkey merge, form FireMonkeys

Earlier today, EA announced the formation of FireMonkeys: a merger of Melbourne-based mobile development studios, Firemint and IronMonkey.

The new game development studio is now Australia's largest, with over 85 million downloads and 15 #1 hits between them. As for the reason behind the merger, it's pretty clear: the idea of the talent at Firemint (of Flight Control and Real Racing fame) and IronMonkey (Mass Effect Infiltrator) working together under one roof is pretty tantalising.

“Both of these studios have produced award-winning games,” says Tony Lay, general manager of IronMonkeys, “and we believe combining the incredible talent pool in Melbourne, as well as leveraging the EA brand, sets us up for further success in the mobile arena.”
