Good job, gamers! I blame you all for potentially ruining a great franchise!
We’ve already had our go at Dead Space 3 and its watered down, co-op scares. MCV, however, has just reported that Dead Space 3‘s altered nature comes from results founds in market research. Laura Miele, a marketing executive at EA Games told MCV that her company wanted to make the survival horror title more accessible to the general masses.
“We were hearing feedback that they love the thriller game,” Miele said, “but it was pretty scary, and the obvious next step was that they wanted to play with someone. So we introduced co-op into the game.”
Miele stressed that Dead Space 3 would be “no less scary” and “true to its roots,” but their research found people were more comfortable playing the game with a friend or online co-op partner. Miele continued that co-op allowed for the scares to be shared, and that move was to “reach out to consumers that perhaps were not open to Dead Space 1 and 2.
What do you think of these new revelations, gamers?
Dead Space 3 arrives on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in February 2013.
