Melbourne’s 105 participants don’t have long to wait now, as our own leg of the global IGDA Game Jam begins today at 3:30pm.
The event takes place this weekend in the Beth Gleeson Building of Bundoora’s La Trobe University. Registration runs from 3:30pm, and the Jam’s theme is announced at 5:00pm. The Jam truly begins after teams have formed at 7:00pm.
If you’re going as a Jammer, don’t forget that organiser Giselle Rosman’s best advise was to “bring many, MANY blankets for the super mega air conditioning in the sleeping lab.” Smart words from one who probably slept in the cold last year.
This is Melbourne’s second Jam, so it’s safe to say there will be some newcomers to the Jam this time around. Have no fear, as Israel-based Scoreoid is here to help! Taking part in their third Jam this time around, the crew at Scoreoid have prepared a lovely set of resources to take into the experience. They’ve linked to a series of tools, including graphic resources, music and sound resources, terrain and map editing tools, models, HTML5 assistance and more. These guys know what they’re doing; Scoreoid’s entry from last year — Demise! — is available for download at the Global Game Jam site and is pretty damn fun.
Have you participated in a past Jam? Do you have any other tips or tricks for those n00bs taking part from today? Let us know!
